In 2013, I formed a new routine to start the weekend and would sit in my tiny courtyard enjoying an enormous mug of ceylon tea, while whittling twigs that had fallen from our gumtree. Whittling twigs reminded me of spending time outdoors, and being around a campsite. After a few weekends of whittling twigs into progressively more decorative shapes, I figured it was time to give spoon carving a try. After plenty of elbow grease carving the first spoon out of a block of hard beechwood with a simple Opinel folding knife, I was hooked on the idea of making more spoons and other functional objects by hand.
Here are some of the projects in the order they were made. The principles were really to keep things simple, using hand tools only and to develop items that would be functional.
All timber used was sustainability sourced or found (discarded by others).
